For all their attempts of innovation over the years, why havent they just redisgned the head stock angle? Its like they are in so deep they can never concede to this one issue. Gibson fails due to hubris.

what aren't you getting? I don't care for faithfulness to vintage specs. its us made and has good electronics right?

I win.

It's just not a Standard or a Custom.
Save the money and get a Standard or a Custom.

The neck is maple, it's weight relieved, and the 490 Alnico 2 pickups sound kind of bad.

Just remember whatever you get, /gg/ will make fun of you for not buying the next most expensive model.

>you didn't hunt for the nicest flame top on the internet?

>only a new production guitar? what's wrong with 59s? can't afford one?

>maple neck
New classics don't have maple necks.

Tributes do tho

Anyone have any luck out of warmoth parts?

Holy based, the best Gibsons ever made had maple necks.

Gibson did redesign it in the 70s, to 14 degrees with a volute. Sometimes they were even made up 3 pieces of maple instead of one piece of mahogany. They still broke, not because of the severity of the headstock angle, but because it's angled at all, and so is the neck, so whenever the guitar falls backwards the tip of the headstock is the first thing to contact the ground. If they made the neck flat with the body it would change the feel of the guitar to being a heavy telecaster so you might as well not buy a gibson at that point.

Why is maple neck bad? Is it a tone thing?
Weight relief = less sustain?

It's so hard to find good lefty guitars bros

Remember /gg/, fringe equals cringe. Don't be the guitar version of that guy who shows up in an ahegao print salmon tuxedo. Stick to traditional looks and stand out with your personality, talent, and accomplishments instead.

Acceptable standards:

Left handed guitars are a scam.
You have to pay more to find something decent, and you can't play anyone else's guitar.
I'm left handed and I'm glad I learned to play regular.

Silverburst existed long before Tool.
It's the only acceptable Custom finish because it ages nicely and looks good both aged or new.

So bummed bros. Just dropped my guitar on tile and put a dent/small chip at the top of the headstock. Is there something I should do for it, like put glue over it? I dont want it to get worse. FUCK

youtube.com/watch?v=lRAp6QBA1AE

honestly tho, looks terrible imo.

How did it ever take off?

Does the amps components(excluding cab) impact how drive pedals sound in the clean channel? Is boosting a clean channel getting you closer to the amps crunch or overdrive sounds or is the clean channel free from the influence of those and you just get the characteristics of the pedal exclusively?

I got cookie cutter tube amps. A blues jr and a dsl40.

The fender retains drive pedals character while the marshall kind of always sound similar with gain up and it’s been upsetting me.

my best friend

Attached: mesa.jpg (774x1032, 50.84K)

So I have an old fender tweed with a handwired turret board, there's a cold solder joint or bad connection on the back side of the turret board, I can't get to it without desoldering all the grounds. My soldering iron doesn't get hot enough, the metal chassis acts like a heatsink and it won't melt the big gobs of solder. Should I just cut the wires and just add more solder to reconnect them to the existing gobs? Or should I just get a fancy soldering iron

how many watts are your soldering iron? maybe you just need a different tip for better heat transfer?

also be careful with mains power and big caps, they can kill you. make sure you drain them

>80s shredder or 90s shoegazer
I only play folk and 3 chord pop songs thank you very much

Yee, I always discharge the caps. I'll try a different tip, maybe more surface area will help. If it doesn't work I'll have to snip em and resolder them later, hopefully the old solder bonds with the new stuff

hey Anons, my amp budget is too low to go all the way for a boss katana mkII. Do any of the amps on here look like clones of it? artistguitars.com.au/shop/amps-effects/guitar-amplifiers/solid-state-amplifiers/1008
These guys sell chinkshit with decent quality control and 100 day free returns.

If it's a practice amp it doesn't matter, maybe just get an interface and monitor headphones. If you're recording/gigging for less than the cost of a chinkshit modeler you could get a cheap used tube amp which you will enjoy much more.

Yeah just for playing at home. I imagine a decent interface and monitor headphones would cost more than the $80 for a cheap amp?

No, get some samson SR850 headphones for $50 and spend the rest on a used interface at your local pawn shop. If you have a half decent computer you'll get better results and more options from amp sims than a chinkshit practice amp.

>your local pawn shop

>now he's mad because it true

I win.

They obviously cant afford a drill press and the bugman who drilled the pilot holes was so crooked that one of the screws almost came through the side of the neck. Seriously, the tip of that screw ends up being less than a mm from blowing through the side. It will eventually split the neck. I should have told them to return this piece of shit to Guitar Center, but fuck 'em because they should have just bought a Yamaha from our shop in the first place and they wouldn't have even needed to pay me $60 to polish this turd.

They’re not bad. They naturally straighter and it doesn’t matter anyway because tonewood doesn’t matter on electrics.

But Boomers wanted things that only adhered to 1959 specs and would tolerate no deviation. So Gibson, whipped, finally capitulated and went back to building them the old way that would result in worse guitars.

Would buy without a second thought.

>They naturally straighter

Hello fro/gg/man how's the weather in France today

yeah that's a really really nice guitar dunno what he's on about

The Marshall doesn’t need a drive pedal. It has enough drive on its own, and it’s EQ doesn’t always play well with drive pedals.
What Marshall players usually do instead is use a some dedicated treble boost pedal like the RangeMaster or EHX Screaming Bird, a preamp pedal like the MXR Micro Amp, ZVex Super Hard On or EHX LPB1, or an overdrive pedal set to boost only, like a TubeScreamer or a Klone. Then just feed the amp boost like cocaine to a hair metal band and let the amp work its own magic.

or the string-pull so the fucking thing stays in tune

try one out and see if you like it. I didn't care for it, but we may be looking for different things in guitars.

If it really bothers you, you could look into what luthiers do with wood dust/saw dust as a filler, and either try to do it yourself or get a professional to do it. This isn't the place to research it though. Guitar or luthier forums

Get a more powerful soldering iron.
Cold solder joints are a fact of old amps. Usually you can fix them just by heating up the joint again and touching a little bit new solder to the joint.
Don’t clip anything you don’t have to.

your fault for buying chinese

And yet it still works, is perfectly secure and holds tune. So this is about whining and bitching, not actual quality problems.

If you want to see what quality problems are all about, go play a 1960s Teisco or an 80s Harmony. You’ll appreciate your Squiers and Epiphones A LOT more.

They *ARE naturally straighter. Stronger too.
That better for your retarded eyes?

>implying I bought that piece of shit
I am merely the man who charged them $80 for a string change and setup, making their bottom tier $250 chinese shitplank about $330. Which was enough money to buy a superior Indonesian shitplank built by Cort.

Attached: IMG_20201221_121159047.jpg (3840x2160, 1.35M)

>And yet it still works, is perfectly secure and holds tune. So this is about whining and bitching, not actual quality problems.
That neck is going to split Chang. And the guitar was unplayable with a 6mm action and 2mm of neck relief before having to pay a professional (me) $80 to polish that turd.

Meanwhile the very next setup was a Superior in every way IYV Thinline Telecaster from Vietnam that the customer paid $140 for. It didnt have any of the problems the Chink shitplank had, and was even decently setup from the factory. I ended up resetting the neck because it the high E was slipping off the board up high, and I gave the truss rod a 1/4 turn to correct the relief. That was pretty much it. The Squier Affinity is the biggest piece of shit I have encountered in memory. Squier obviously discontinued the superior Standard Tele and Strat etc because they were too high quality compared to the Mexicant garbage from Ensenada.

Feel like my lessons might be moving too slow. How much ground should I be covering every week in bass at the beginning?

It’s arriving today bros :^)

You've got to realize its a pretty pricy guitar for an inferior feature set. If you're function>fashion who already has acquired specific preferences and dislikes (is the weight acceptable? the slipping G string tuning? upper fret access?) probably not. But if it's the "vibe" "mojo" or simple aesthetics you really want why not.

>my guitar got a boo boo
Do you people even play?
no dings=you dont play

that is the real answer. I've played good and bad guitars from every Gibson era. The new ones are actually much more consistent compared to the Norlin stuff.

Cringe if true

if you can find a good one (they vary), and have the money to spare, go for it. But maybe get something you'll be able to sell and recoup most of your money in case you don't like it. Try several different LPs first before buying.

A guitar doesn't acquire it's soul until it's played.

Which is why yours hasn't, because you didn't.

There is a guitar store in Houston that only sells left handed guitars. You're probably not anywhere near Houston, but they have a website southpawguitars.com/

Simpsons did it Simpsons did it

Attached: flanders-leftorium.jpg (1200x630, 111.43K)

Up until the mid-early 2000s stuff is still quite good. The 90s stuff is popular. But really you've got to try out several to see what you like and don't. Many people find LPs ergonomically uncomfortable. Some of the Traditionals from a few years ago were ok, and can be picked up relatively inexpensively on the used market. Stay away from the weird LPs with gimmicks added on (eg robo-tuners)

LPs are...unique, shall we say. It's not like with fender strats where they're pretty much all going to be comfortable (after a set up, in some cases), and reasonably consistent. LPs were a custom instrument for a guy who played jazz and country sitting down with the guitar between his legs, classical style. They have inherent design weaknesses and cost a lot to manufacture. But people like them because despite all that, they have a unique sound and look pretty cool.

The Cort would still need a setup so your argument is a fallacy. Sellers deserve hell

Don't open it for a day.

When you receive your package bring it inside and leave it unopened for a day to let the guitar acclimate. This week has been bad for winter temps and you risk a warped neck if you open it too quickly. I learned this from Sweetwater sound

Learning the fretboard fluently is taking so much longer than I thought it would.
Playing classical music without tabs has been helpful and fun (already fluent in reading staff music), but most of the easy repertoire never goes above the 5th fret.

Sam is fucking pathetic

Yeah I have a particular one in mind, I'm just seeing what else is out there before I drop the big bucks.

>$2000+
>hideously bookmatched top
The Les Paul shape is beautiful but other shops make an infinitely better guitar.

>book matched
We have been over this many of times.
Gibson flick matches not book matches.

No, they don't.

Kiesel makes some great guitars. It's too bad everyone spergs out when they order them. I owned a DC 127 back in the day that was a barebones all mahogany hardtail with a natural finish. Really the only guitar I've ever regretted selling.

I doubt this guy plays actually. Anyone who buys a mastery bridge is probably just strumming dream chords and layering them all in a stuttering, fuzzy mess "for the viiiibes man" while all the non hipsters within earshot tell him his guitar is broken

Gibsons are meant to have weak flame. Subtle and tasteful flame that dances in the stage lights and seems to vanish into the wood and reappear again while your guitar moves around. None of that PRS/Kiesel retardation that looks more like a stripey hologram baseball card.

That said, that particular Gibson is about as well done as a PRS 10 top that costs 3 times as much. And that's a steal, because PRS doesn't do neck binding (because it's too hard for them) and usually skips on the body binding too (because it's too hard for them).

Attached: CU410VIPTV7-large.jpg (500x750, 62.71K)

This one costs $4200. At least they did binding on the body.

Attached: 20191119_101808.jpg (1600x1600, 675.91K)

That looks fucking ugly dont even pretend user

the people buying these guitars don't buy flame for taste, they buy flame to tell other blues lawyers and metal dentists their flame maple cap is thicker and better than the other guys.

>binding
Look closer

This

It's not binding, they just tape the paint off and it looks like a stripe running around top.

Bookmatching is gay. It actually makes expensive guitars look cheap, since all cheap guitars have perfectly bookmatched tops these days.

>strat on top
>les paul on the bottom
uggo af senpai

hahaha wow. $4200 PRS is more cheaply done than a $2500 gibson.

it looks like an inverted lolipop. the 24 fret ones are the worst, they shift the entire scale up on the body so the last fret is still accessible and the guitar gets two inches longer and more stupid looking.

I'm not much of a fan of PRS bookmatched tops either. If your going to spend several thousands of dollars ESP, Kiesel, Warwick/Framus, and other smaller boutique brands do a much better job.
That's a ridiculous amount of cope, the mental gymnastics here is off the charts.

gorgeous, but I don't think it really fits the aesthetics of the guitar.

>cope
no, it's right. literally every cheap LTD uses a paper thin slice of a perfectly bookmatched top and they all look exactly like the expensive ones from 5 feet away.

perfectly matched, highly figured flame maple is THE cheap metal guitar aesthetic. the aforementioned weak flame that fades in and out depending on the angle looks more expensive. cheap guitars can't do that because their maple is paper thin instead of half an inch thick.

I disagree, it gives another dimension of character, rather than slapping on some solid color hiding the beautiful grains and patterns of the wood.

This
Here's what a real 59 looks like. That's the kind of flame top I like, can't find that on a cheap guitar.

God this over the top flame shit is fucking ugly. No wonder all the kids are playing fenders if the alternative looks like a coffee table from the 70s.

inb4 tasteless fags say
>OH NOO HOW COULD YOU DISLIKE THIS YOURE JUST COPING BECAUSE YOU CANT HAVE IT OBVIOUSLY
I would rather wear gucci than versace, and I can afford both.

What do you think of my Kill Em All tone match on Axe FX

vocaroo.com/1OcaqGWf0fIF

Still working on ways to make it a little less "dry"

lmao you don't own an AxeFx sam, stupid monkey

its not about good taste, it's about going to the extreme because everyone knows fancier wood costs more, that way everyone can look at your guitar and think you spent a lot of money on it.

Highly figured maple is the gold plated hardware and abalone inlays of wood.

noice

in my experience playing them/reading about it, every gibson that was made after 2010-2011 is nothing special

I never mentioned LTD or Korean offshoots, I'm talking high end builds. I would pass on pic related.
As for this top maybe I'm autistic but I'd rather have a thinner cap with perfect symmetry than some unmatched $2000+ guitar.

Really sloppy. Temp is all over the place. And I refuse to believe someone can make axe FX sound this bad. Maybe a teenager?

There are no cutoffs. Old = good is a boomer fallacy. Rather there are eras.

For example, late henry J era gibsons are absolute fucking trash. Late 2019 they get good again.

you can't tell it from a high end build from a few feet away. however much it costs, it's tasteless. i'd rather not have matching at all and just have a subtle, vague flame effect.

pic related is your style

and this is the correct style

*shitplanks in your path*

I've always wanted a Les Paul style guitar so much, but last night I dreamed I played a blue Strat and it felt so fucking good. What does this mean bros?

dogshit timing

>It's another gibson doesn't oil their fretboards episode
Once you oil them after buying them they look great but come on man

Is Gibson purposefully gatekeeping their guitars from newbies?

>no symmetry
>can tell where it was joined/glued together
Just because it's a '59 doesn't mean it's better, if that's your rationale so be it.

those certainly are instruments

>Strat not natural = not matching the floor
you almost made it too bad

It definitely looks better than this overdone garbage.

>>no symmetry
>>can tell where it was joined/glued together

That's the point. A $500,000 guitar has an irregular top, but a $200 chinese copy has perfectly bookmatched veneers. You figure it out. It's a matter of taste.

Kek! That's a mighty assumption, and far from reality. All this cope over Gibson's shitty matched tops, I hope they're paying you or atleast discounting your purchases for your brand loyalty.

Lmao literally everyone who isn't a tasteless metal faggot or blooz lawyer hates your flaming homosexual maple

Look around you. Everyone is playing FENDER, at every price point, with plain paint jobs, because they would rather have that than be seen in public with some hideous over the top PRS with 9001A flame maple. The tasteful public's rejection of flame maple is getting to the point where people will specifically seek out cheaper gibsons without any figuring at all just so they don't look like blues lawyers.
