What do you think of the voice cast in steven universe?

it's interesting that they mostly went for musical theater people rather than any of the fifteen established cartoon voice actors.
That being said, the original music is definitely the strongest aspect of the show.

i don't give a single flying fuck about this show. looks shit is shit

I think it worked very well from what I saw, though Steven's voice goes from grating to kind of adorable to grating again. I had always wondered why Pearl sounded so familiar until I found out she was also the original Nessa in Wicked.

I like them for the most part, though I definitely wish Zach had stopped forcing the younger voice earlier rather than like until the movie and Future

I hate the fact that they used special guest celebrities for fusions because it guaranteed they'd never have a second speaking role.
That aside, I enjoyed how good it sounded to have the actual voice actors singing and not having a split between speaking voice and singing voice.

Perhaps it made for some nice songs, but the reliance on musicians ultimately hurt the show since the actresses couldn't be in every episode due to budget issues.
I would have prefered if the cast was filled with professional voice actresses, not famous singers

Michaela Dietz is easily the weakest core cast member in terms of her singing performance, even though she's spot-on in her voice acting for the character of Amethyst. The rest are pretty good. I think casting broadway dames as the Diamonds was an inspired choice, but they didn't do nearly as much as they probably should have with that, because the last couple episodes of the series centering on the final conflict and reconciliation should have been its own season really, while cutting some of the townie episodes that didn't go anywhere.

What the fuck are you doing trying to give a real answer?

>it's interesting that they mostly went for musical theater people rather than any of the fifteen established cartoon voice actors.
And it's good they did. American cartoons tend to rely on such a small number of VAs, particularly in regards to female characters. I'd much rather they try musicians for a musically inclined show than have Tara Strong voice six characters on the show, including Steven.

Be the change you want to see, I guess?

Honestly the only character who always felt weak was Garnet. Her voice was interesting but her acting was always flat, moments when she needs to emote beyond a smooth monotone sound so awkward and forced and she has a problem with enunciation.

I gotta admit, I like when new voices are used, like I know they’re professionals for a reason but like, let new talent live I guess

I actually think Sugar handled that pretty well, all things considered. Blue and Yellow each got a song of their own, and the movie utilized all three famed singers in that rousing, nostalgic opening number as well as in "Let Us Adore You" and its sweet reprise. They even got minor parts in SU Future's intro.

With as big a cast as SU had, the Diamonds were treated very well with the amount of screen time and singing time they were given.

Let Us Adore You is fucking fine as fuck

Almost as fine as Blue Diamond

Did anyone else feel Pearl looked bustier than usual in that scene?

A little redundant if you ask me

I think they are all lovely.

Alexandrite had her own voice actress?

When she actually spoke in things other than roars, yes.

I fucking hate everything about Garnet's and so all fusions and Diamonds VA to be celebs.
voice acting being a devalued form of acting is one of the most major things holding back western cartoons.
Even Japan treats it's VAs as VAs instead of letting the celebrity corrupting their tastes

I don't think I like this show overall looking back on it, but the voice actors were pretty good mostly.

I feel bad for Garnet's voice actor sometimes

I will never not laugh at the rubies

The more Nestelle feels bad and hurted the happier I stay

why?

Voice cast was excellent.

Good morning to you too

A little

The only one I would really consider super weak is Estelle. Her voice is fine when Garnet needs to be a quiet, soft spoken, stoic leader, but literally any time she needs to emote anything, Estelle's voice is god awful. Woman can not emote to save her life.

Damn I really wanna jerk it to them

Look what Rebecca and her crew turn into that sweet, innocent kid
