I think it has a lot to do with culture. If you look at certain values in Japanese culture you will see why they are especially well equipped for cartooning. Look at the art styles the east tends to make and gravitate towards vs. what the west does and think about why. Japan appreciates small clean things and understands that big expression can be conveyed using simple effects.

I've chatted with him a few times. He's Japanese. He has a sub-5 digit pixiv account. He has been a fixture on 2chan and the oekaki board here for a long time, probably before many of you even started browsing Dab Forums. You're just rediscovering him.
You won't get anything concrete because, unlike this new era of porn artists whoring for commissions and patrons, the guy draws for fun and for the entertainment of the board. There isn't even a single complete collection of his stuff online, be it the-collection or sadpanda.

but yeah simon's art was wonky a long time ago but it was still more unique and energetic than any average asian artist, he's in a complete league of his own now where only best of the best could come close to him when it comes to cartooning and style in particular, sure there are better "illustration" artists in asia, china in particular who can render shit like no one else
but he's a standout when it comes to Dab Forums and related art and how anyone can say otherwise is beyond me

If the asian style of old cartoons is THE asian style then it makes no sense, because what is actually drawn by asian people now is not asian style in that case which is a dumb case to argue.
and besides 70/80s children's anime copied the disney style and the general style of western cartoons so it's still western even by that regard.
it only became distinctly asian when it deviated from it into what's more common today, aka ixy's style or anime style, aka style used by 90% of asian artists from japan, china and korea etc.
while the toon/cartoon style also used by some chinese/korean/japanese artists that are few and far between, like mossa, is known as the western style now

Tezuka was influenced by Disney. But even then, he still had his own recognizable style. Tezuka was not the entire manga/anime industry. In terms of animation style and everything else, anime wasn't anything like Disney either.
