On a surface level we're close to identical, but value-wise we have some differences. Americans cherish freedom, choice and have this creeping paranoia about how government never works and never really trust one another. It feeds into their consumerist culture where you have to have the newest gadget or bigger home every five years, and have far more to buy than up north. Americans believe equality derives from how hard you work hard for it. Canadians prefer a quietly working government and have a little more optimism in their institutions, like with health care or our tighter regulations. Our idea of equality is levelling the playing field for everyone as much as possible, almost to the detriment of those who have ambition or talent.

Having a national culture goes against what it means to be a canadian desu. Also even if you think Canada has no culture, America has a lot of cultural baggage (slavery, jim crow, jewish elites, porn, democracy, etc.) that isn't present in this country. At best we imitate the USA, but we'll never be like them so it's good that we find our own path instead.
