The god speech was the most essential part of the story. The painting turned upside down.
Batman decides that God must be evil (Luthor convinces him), but Batman decides that God must die. Luthor wants to serve God - the evil God. Lex Sr. was pious, but with the pretense that God was good. Lex Jr.'s twisted solution to that is simply admitting God is wicked, but remaining pious nonetheless. He's too broken to ever oppose Lex Sr.'s piety, but by making God evil and serving an evil god, Lex Jr. finds a world that works for him.
Also, the Martha thing breaks Batman out of the spell, but he also quickly pieces together that Lex has played him - immediately. Meaning that Lex doesn't consider Superman to be the dark god. That's half of why Batman wanted to kill Superman, because of riffing on Luthor's belief that Superman is the dark god. He realized that Lex considers Superman to be an obstacle to the coming of something wicked.

I rewatched the ultimate edition just a few days ago. What a coincidence. When I saw it when it came out I thought it was great, now not so much. There are things I really like and things I really dislike.

Batfleck is a great Batman, I don't understand the hate. He looks cool as fuck, he's gritty, doesn't hesitate to fuck up criminal scum. Affleck was great in the role.
Portraying Superman as a God was really cool. Made me see Superman in a different way.
Fight scenes (especially between Batman and Superman) were really well done and interesting to watch.
I know the movie is like three hours but I constantly felt it was being rushed. The movie felt compressed. There was always that feeling like a scene was missing here and there. Because of this the flow of the movie was terrible. I think this was the studios fault, Snyder always has problems with the studio. I felt like Snyder was trying to do something different but the studio was forcing it to be a generic, safe superhero movie.

I don’t underestimate his ability to come up with good ideas, but I don’t think he’s very good at executing them. The core idea behind the famous “Martha” part is actually very good, the problem is that he doesn’t get how to do it properly (possibly because he gets fixated on details that don’t matter); instead of Superman saying “Martha” he should have said “mom I need to save my mom” or something like that, the way it was executed makes both of the characters (and Snyder) look autistic by thinking that the names being the same matters (unsubtle man children will say it a good because it makes the parallel stronger but having the name be spoken first makes superman seem like a weirdo when he should be shown as human as possible), and they start being too chummy too fast for people that were just trying to kill each other, Snyder had a good idea, but he didn’t implement it well, just chose this example because it’s infamous and the best illustration of Snyders ideas lacking the proper use.
He’s struggled before with interpreting the works of others like this as well by missing the wood for the trees (turning Ozymandias into a sociopath who tricks the world into thinking that America was retarded and lost control of its super weapon, which would actually just make the Cold War intensify).
I’d rather this poor execution than exec boards having no ideas and stitching together movies out of pure cliche, but it’s still poor execution and warrants criticism.

If you dislike something you don't watch it or mention how shit it is in passing, you don't spend years and/or entire threads acting like Snyder is weaponised ebola and everyone needs to know it. The fact that it’s about showing how human he is should mean that he reveals his identity to Batman himself, that he’s scared of losing his mom because superman was man from Kansas before he knew he was a space alien. Snyder’s idea was good but he needed more clarity rather than muddling it with other things that thematically conflict and reduce clarity.
