Opie was the heart and soul of the show. He was the everyman. When Anthony was doing his horrible impressions or Jimmy was having a meltdown over Derrick Jeter, Opie was asking the questions that were on all of our minds like, "what makes saltwater so bad for you?".
Opie represented you and I. He took his lunch to school in a concrete mixing bag just like us. He gave the average Joe a voice on the radio, even interrupting hacks like Patrice O'Neal or Colin Quinn just to allow the listeners to speak. Truly a man of the people.

I've never seen one person live so rent free in people's heads. Even all of those put together Nopie segments on youtube people can't stop talking about him in the comments. The biggest mistake Opie ever made was giving a shit about what some nobody fans say about him and letting it drive him insane. He's not particularly funny, he's massively insecure, he's emotionally unstable and he's a virtue signalling cuck but despite all of it he made the show. If Norton had any balls and took a chance on Anthony when he got fired their new show would have sucked and deep down everyone knows it. They're shit performers without Opie. He knew how to make them dance.

He’s just an unfunny person who just lacks anything that would make someone funny, I’d argue an even bigger mistake was thinking he was in any position to try to compete with or outshine comedians instead of accepting his role as the helmsman of the show who keeps it on course. It’s his weird ego that told him that it was somehow a shameful role when really it was needed and everyone respected him at least on that level despite who he is as a person.
