well, it really, really depends. Some sectors could not exist without it. When covid hit, some people wanted to close the border to italy completely. That would have been a disaster because 60% of healthcare workers in ticino are italian.
On the other side, in regions bordering to france swiss craftsmen (carpenters etc.) can't compete with their french competition and manual labor does not pay any more because of the influx of frontier workers.
It depresses wages in some areas, but decreases costs in others.
Me personally, I'd rather see italians, french and germans have a good economy of their own and make sound, liveable wages at home. Then we meet in holidays and get drunk together...
