I was agreeing with you user. I was however saying that a lot of retail wagies are trained to say yes yes yes, be over enthusiastic, and give suggestions like she did. I think that she DID agree with it but I am just saying that take things that you hear like this from wagies with a grain of salt.

Yeah it very well does. Because managers enforce it by going postal even if you resonably deny a customer request that goes against store policy. If customers think you are rude in the slightest bit they start a massive shitstorm and managers dont want to hear your side of things. Tl;dr, a lot of people from all walks of life play a part in the scheme that fuels this obedience society.
Back to the phone call, If it were me, I would have told that person we dont carry anything like that and I have no idea where to get one. I just wouldnt want to feed into this further.
