Upscaled backgrounds or original assets?
>Nintendo
???
Will pirate.
backgrounds look upscaled to me. sprites may have gone some minor upscaling, it's hard to say it's been so long since I've seen this game.
>square puts KH only on epic
>square puts legend of mana on steam
???
You mean square user?
>epic pays a lot of money for KH exclusivity
>doesnt do the same for legend of mana
not hard to understand when KH is so much more popular
Already confirmed to not use the original assets for the backgrounds, we had a whole thread pouring over every blade of grass, don't know about other graphical elements. That said it looks as if they've tried their hardest not to fuck it up, even though my black weeb friend online believes the graphical changes to be too radical for his liking given that he's played LoM for years.
THAT'S A SOUL FROM ME SENPAI
I love the new backgrounds but they really clash with the character sprites and I don't know if I'd want those updated.
Looks like the backgrounds have been traced over. There's a tool for comparing one of them to the old one at this link.
Seems there's some detail lost, but compared to most other "remasters" this isn't so bad.
i dont mind much with how the backgrounds clash with the sprites, but i am really impressed how well they stayed true to the psx backgrounds.
It was announced in the nintendo direct so OP thinks nintendo contributed to it somehow but it's just a square enix release with no exclusivity so that's unlikely.
The only way they could really do the original spritework justice is if they got the madlads at Vanillaware to do the entire game but there's no way they could do that. I'm fine with the remaster especially if the soundtrack remaster is good.
this webbum is shit at whatever it's trying to convey
I really hope the tweak the gameplay and difficulty as well. It's the only thing preventing this from being a genuinely perfect title.
They need to give you an option to run from encounters because some of the later stages are hallway mazes that force you to run into enemy's that just waste your time.
>pay for exclusivity also supported by disney
not hard to understand
Looks like AI upscaling. Nice to see Square have finally caught up.
Looks nice, I'll keep an eye for it.
Not exactly running but you can disable encounters now.
I hope it sells well just to fuck over nintendo in future games.
The background always clashed with the character sprites. The character sprites were all out of place and jarring, the quality of both seems about parallel though. Compared to the other remasters the backgrounds look great- its the sprite work of the characters im more concerned with. But based on the 2 trailers they seem clearer but keep the same amount of clunky animations. The one thing that seems the same is the world placement portion.
Never played or seen this game before the direct, its weird seeing those sprites against the gorgeous backgrounds. I know its a massive undertaking but it'd look so fucking nice with vanillaware-esque 2d sprites
>square puts KH only on epic
Disney owns KH.
I don't think they tried at all
It looks nice.
The game had such a unique and timeless look to it that the series creator said that the only reason he hasn't done a full remake of it like he has with Trials is because (in his eyes) 3D technology hasn't hit the point where he can do the art direction justice.
Now I'm curious, with Mickey Mouse becoming domain three years from now, where does that put kingdom hearts?
>Want to play the game again
>need to pull up a pre-9/11 FAQ on Gamefaqs for the optimal world placement
pain
I don't know if I like this game or not. It's a very weird game.
Nowhere because the mouse will extend copyright again.
how naive of you to think they will let the mouse become public domain, they will use their OP jew jitsu to extend the period, calling it now.
>fuck over nintendo in future games
That doesn't make any sense
They definitely did give it an honest try but AI upscaling can only go so far, S-E will never stop kicking themselves over tossing out source code for so many of their pre-merge games.
You should keep in mind that it could have been so, so much worse given their track record for "remasters"
The only parts of the screen that somewhat benefit from blur are heavily dithered areas.
The rest is just saturation cranked up to the maximum which for some reason crt fags treat like a feature unique to the outdated technology.
>$29.99
I paid less than that for my PS1 copy.
Dubaba dub!
gak!
i still have a ps1 disc for this game. was my favorite game.
100% Disney's fault. Square chases the money. Disney chases their chink overlords.
Why did this one have so many negative reviews?
>pre-purchase
nah
It's a Square PC port. Put two and two together.
is it coming out for PS5? i prefer physical games.
h-hahaha
The 3d models are OK but they are animated pretty much EXACTLY like a super nintendo game. All of the story scenes look awkward as all hell. As an added bonus enemies being able to attack in all directions made some of the areas a lot harder than they were in the original because there were like no safe zones. I didn't bother to finish it so I don't know if it got patched or anything later on.
Emulate the original, this is a travesty
they probably scanned the original drawings again and didn't need to reduce the quality this time around because consoles and PC can now display them with no limitations
The fact that this doesn't seem to be getting the full remake treatment gives me hope that Square is investing their resources into a completely new game in the Trails of Mana remake style.
Now is the time to do it and make that series a franchise again, but a Legend of Mana remake isn't the game that would accomplish that.
It's a shit ugly remake of an already shit game.
remastered music was trash
voice acting in English AND Japanese was trash
retranslation was trash
and the original gameplay was pretty rough even for SNES standards, but people forgave it back then because an Action RPG was unheard of in the era
it's hard to go back if they don't actually make it good
Do you understand now why people are mad at Tim for paying for exclusives?
They fucked up the combat so now enemies have complete advantage and sometimes you're not even able to hit flying enemies due to hitbox detection.
bruh this isn't pure AI upscaling, this had to be done by hand
the 'home' sign is a dead giveaway
there is added detail in a lot of places that cannot be inferred from the original image
there's also a lack of the 'oil painting' effect that's common to almost all models trained on similar artstyle, at least ones I'm aware of
upscaled-then-manually-touched-up I can buy though
Duba gugu gak!
Do you see the green wiggly?
TWIALS
>30 fucking bucks

Why is Squeenix like this, Dab Forums?
Ive never played any mana game. What order/which games should i play
>"please pirate our game, thanks"
I think they are pretty cool tbqh.
Snoys live in their own reality where their logic makes sense only to them
>Giving a shit about the backgrounds and assets
>Ignoring the only good Soundtrack Yoko ever did is getting remastered
Y'all fuckin need to get your priorities straight
I get that kind of hard drive space needed for ps1 games was a premium back then and that they weren't planning them around a possible remaster twenty years later, but christ, they could have at least burned the masters to some fucking cd's.
Mind you it's not just square at fault for this, most japanese companies were doing this.
I cannot fucking wait to groove out to it
Fuck off Pajeet
Yeah, it's been about 20 years since I last played it but I remember how amazing the various activities you could do at home and how disappointing it was that bosses are just damage sponges. There really needs to be a way to use all those golems, pets and the most ridiculously complex and insane crafting system in any game
In my opinion, it's a mediocre series with a lot of charm that did things that no other games did at the time. It might not capture you entirely, but if you had to play just one, my suggestion would be the SNES version of Trials of Mana.
>Only $49.99 plus tip!
i'll just emulate it thanks
>filters and not on a real crt
>legend of mana
>secret of mana
what's the difference
I swear that track has a different name every time I look at it. Only knew it because of the piano melody in that sheet t bh.
It's so underappreciated. I wish it had a budget to give the side characters more love. They're all really interesting and/or hilarious and fit the whimsical nature of the world building.
much more different than most games in the same series would be from one another
>som = action rpg
>lom = beatemup rpg
>the only good Soundtrack Yoko ever did
What's wrong with you? Off the top of my head:
-Street Fighter 2
-Super Mario RPG
-Parasite Eve
-Kingdom Hearts
Two different games in the same series.

Where can i get this?
This is square enix user, they probably accidentally flushed the original drawings down the toilet
Thanks user. Does their jp store actually ship to the west tho?
>29.99 usd
uhh...
Ty user, i havent actually played any jrpgs aside from ni no kuni and want to try out some stuff in the genre, and with this new announcement felt it might have been a good time to try this series
don't think so
gotta use a middle man company most likely
>they removed co-op in this too
Why do all these mana ports and remakes remove the co-op?
They had some of the weirdest characters in the history of big market games. I kind of wish they'd spend more effort on making the sprites look nice, since some of them were complicated enough that it was tough to make them out sometimes.
Most of them are veterans of a mana war suffering from PTSD. For a colorful game the dialog is fucking dark if you pay attention during chapters.
The fuck was his problem?
oh my god that's gorgeous art
>2P controller settings
His fat demon cock was too big to fit in his virgin priestess waifu
This fucking guy.
Didn't Legend have some really shitty and obtuse puzzles/progression? Heard it was the worst mainline Mana game gameplay wise. Cool graphics though.
metaphorical scorpion
can't be worse than secret of mana, that game sucks ass
>worst mainline Mana game
it's not mainline
Always thought that chicks sprite in the top right looked like a diaper. Is she the reason that shit fetish exist?
>Heard it was the worst mainline Mana game gameplay wise
You heard this from a fucking retard. The first 2 mainline games are garbage. Secret of Mana does not deserve the attention it gets.
Preordered on GMG.
God I hope they fixed the load times. It's all that's stopping it from being the perfect game for me
>pre-ordering on gmg when there isn't a discount
SoM has been exposed as shit, even before the shitty remake came out. Trials of mana is the rightful king now.
literally a fucking gba rom running in visualboy wrapped with unity
Eat shit and die, yank parasite.
it was souless mobile trash
The combat is god awful, and they are right about the puzzles. They also have a weapon crafting system that is STILL hard to figure out. But the game was pretty interesting for the surprising weirdness of the plot and characters. It made you want to progress to figure out what was going on with everything.
>search "legend of mana artwork" on google images

In addition to the newly created illustrations and setting images for the remaster, many original treasured materials that could not be published in the series compilation art book "ART of MANA" are also included.

It's an extremely soulful game, but yeah, the combat's not great (at least that's par for the course for this series) and you'll definitely want a guide for some shit. Overall still worth playing if you liked any of the previous games.
Trials > Legend > Adventure >>>>>>>>>>> Secret
>thank you Nintendo
?
this looks like a shitty Angela
Confession time
I use to think the male character was also a girl and gave them girl names
And here I'm playing it for free on my Vita while taking a dump.
And then you have to do a sidequest to get him unpetrified, since he wouldn't stop hitting on the basilisk.
It's called soul
Also this
Wait, they aren't both girls?
Tranny
It's called "the character artist tries to make the sprite artist kill themselves".
I'm glad secret is finally getting the shit it deserves.
It's only remembered fondly by people that played it twenty five years ago when they were kids.
Give it to people without rose tinted nostalgia for it and they'll find it virtually unplayable.
>mfw they put every Mana soundtrack except for Trials and Legend, the two best ones, on Spotify.
>Finally got the original Trials OST when the remake released.
Bros???? Are we finally getting based Legend on streaming in June????
>implying this will stay in current year
Industry is way more prudish nowadays when it comes to shit like this
Please tell me this will be released in the west. It would be the first collection I'd get.
No, the worst mainline Mana game would be Dawn by far.
Legend isn't even mainline.
Knowing Square's translations at the time, they probably just made it up anyway.
wtf I'm a penguin now
Grape-kun had a gf you son of a bitch
the som and sd3 ones were not
Well then fuck this gay earth.
>popular bad, so brave!
Looks like zoombinis.
>bad game, bad
Yes.
You will NEVER get the true experience.
Being popular doesn't make it not shit.
the game has penguin pirates, not somali ones
oh sorry friend
is this full of content like blacksmithing, alchemy, and magic skills, shit like that?
i get JRPGs are grindy but im wondering if the main aspect is experience grinding and not creating/upgrading items and leveling up certain skills.
never played before so i don't know
it's not what you're thinking I'll tell you that
Will it have netplay co-op? This could be fun to revisit if it will
Liking how this looks already, very nice.
Even if backgrounds aren't original assets they actually look pretty nice and it seems quite a bit of effort went into them, however is this some AI upscaling similar to AI gigapixel? it's some of the best use of it I've seen lately.
I'm not complaining if they can't get the original assets it's better they just don't fuck it up by trying to recreate it and missing the mark.
Finally i won't need to play the game with this CRT shader I've been using to help improve ugliness on these old games.
well im not thinking anything that's the fucking problem retard
think about it harder then
That was the shader i was referring to in my postNot gonna lie this shader only makes games that look ugly look less ugly, the upscaling they've done is much better considering it's actually added quite a bit of the detail back.
Redpill me on the Mana franchise.
Surprisingly reasonable price too. Could be a little cheaper but it looks like a damn good remaster.
Got to give square some props. They are remastering/remaking some properties. Who knows, maybe before I die, we get a Xenogears proper remaster (with an actual decent disc 2).
Also,as far as legend of mana is concerned, hope this also has some gameplay changes and not just a graphic polish. The original is great, but I remember that combat kind of sucked.
nostalgia
FF3 and 4 had great looking ports. Sucks the other games didn't get a similar treatment.
Fuck why couldn't they have done this for FF9?
Maybe 20 years ago, no way you're getting that now.
Day X buy, whenever my brother and I can get together and replay this masterpiece
chrono cross when
And another person posting this, CRT Rroyale xm29plus is a good shader, but i don't get why you would prefer using this shader over the backgrounds being objectively improved with upscaling now.
The only thing that seems a little jarring is the contrast between higher quality upscaling and low res pixel art which is probably a valid complaint for some people who don't like how that looks.
I'm not bothered by it though.
All this shader ever did was mask the ugliness of low res graphics on higher res modern screens and look closer to how it did when on a XM29+ multisync monitor
If theyre going full blown remake, okay. But the question is going to be is the remaster going to actually look better than the original, objectively speaking. Right now im getting the feeling that it'll be up for debate for awhile.
>upscaling
>objectively improved
There's definitely some mixed results then, i didn't see this on the Steam page.
>we had a whole thread pouring over every blade of grass,
God I loved that thread. Autism at it's best.
Perhaps saying objectively improved is the wrong way of saying it since you're still trying to make old low res art look better, but i still prefer to look at something that looks more detailed on a modern screen, i don't think it looks great on every game however.
Most SNES games I'd rather just look at on a CRT and i don't want to ever see upscaling on.
However that's just shit upscaling on that Donkey Kong image, a lot of different AI upscaling programs look way better than that, if someone who knows what they're doing gets their hands on it. (pic related)
For the most part at least on the screenshots on Steam i like whatever AI upscaling they're likely using.
Someone posted one of the fountain that doesn't look good though, so i guess I'll have to wait to see everything before it can really be judged.
There was an rticle explaining that epic helped with the kh port iirc, and most likely there was a lot of Tim's money thrown at se too
On another note that doesn't even look like upscaling, it's just filtering.
Trump lost.

Bretty good
you disappoint the cactus
oh shiti want that lil cactus
Moral of the story is, exclusivity is fucking fagaids
that looks weird with the characters next to it, they should've gone the whole way or stick with og, unless that's a feature as well.
Ya'll retards, Mana has waaaay bigger problems than graphics and especially Legend.
indeed, but he's right
Then this game went from a 9,5/10 to a an 11/10.
Will you talk to it everyday like you can do in-game?
What kind of problems?
He’s a demon, what did you expect him to do?
Because Timmy paid out for KH, but not for Legend of Mana.
>Heard it was the worst mainline Mana game gameplay wise
It’s by far the best game this series has to offer.
I don’t know, I didn’t play it. I just wanted to say something bad about it.
The game is very easy to begin with, the friend AI is bad, crafting WILL make you op, the final boss is shit, It lacks an overarching story to tie it all, the map placement can be fucked and you can miss quests because of that.
Its still one of my absolute favorites
Why didn't this get the remake treatment
>Dab Forums's motto
Use .Gif for comparisons like this
KH exclusivity was probably pushed by Disney.
KH is Disney too. Only EA games that come to EGS are Disney as well. It's no coincidence.
is the thread still in the archive? tried to search for it but couldn't find any LoM thread
Legend of Mana is better than any KH game.
Yeah but that's not really the point here
Really hyped for this release! I played the shit out it on PS1 way back when. Loved the soundtrack and I'm gonna use the original versions since I don't much care for the new versions.
it's not just an AI upscale, look at the sign in the remake and how the mountain is directly behind it now
SOULLESS
that's just parallaxing retard
SOUL or SOULLESS?
I like legend of mana but the game is often too complicated for it's own good. For example the world map, crafting, instruments, pets, golems. It's a damn mess. I do love the combat, world and music.
never played this game before
but the idea of fighting game inputs in real-time action rpgs always gets my dick hard
that's the main reason why I loved Vesperia so much
really looking forward to this
the worst part is that there's no reason to be that complex when the game is piss easy even at the hardest difficulty so 90% of those mechanics are useless
same for Vagrant Story, that game had an insanely complex crafting system and a huge amount of spells and yet there was no reason to use anything but you could just get a shit weapon dropped by a skeleton and chainlock even the hardest post-game bosses without ever touching any of those things
how's the remake of Trials?
KH is a trash series anyway.
I unironically just got choked up when I saw the Steam page. I didn't know this was being ported and remastered. This is my favorite game I've ever played, I can't believe it's getting any attention.
Please don't screw it up like Crystal Chronicles, I can't take that.
Definitely looks a little smoothed over, but they did retain a lot of good detail and lighting. Sprites clash horribly like people have mentioned.
Same. Dubba dubaba.
>tfw have a tummy punching fetish
just fucking look at it for crying out loud, it's fucking garbage compared to the great original sprites
Steam says Shared/Splitscreen co-op
Absolute hacks
this honestly looks really bad
Why?
having the background so much more detailed that the focus (the characters) is pretty much the inverse of how it normally works.
There's also a major style clash between pixelart and the hand-drawn looking art.
The top image is ultimately soft all over, which creates a continuous image of a sunny field.
The bottom image has the previously soft looking grass looking a lot sharper and less luminous from the implied sunlight.
In short, the new version has lost the intent of the original.
>lefty feels personally attacked by a picture of a basedboy
don't be so insecure fren
Looks fine to me, the only questionable part is the character sprites
I mean you're welcome to disagree, but to me the new backgrounds remind me more of a PC point-and-click adventure-game than a JRPG.
>put in original drawing without rescaling
>call it remaster
making money off nostal fag must be easy
i feel like replaying it on ps emulator. My fav childhood games
not worth the money i bet. It's not everyone favorite mana series.
I know what you mean, something is definitely lost but what can they do about it really? That's just what happens when you redraw backgrounds that were made for a different era of gaming
So are all the mana games connected? And is it alright to play that PS1 remake of the first mana game I think it was called sword of mana or something
I don't really see anything wrong with it, just include options for the original pixel-art with both bilinear and nearest-neighbor options.
A similar thing happened with the re-release of Grandia 1.
A lot of people would prefer just straight ports instead of messing with the art, yes you could always emulate but if you really like a game you might want to own an easily redownloadable copy with cloud saves, etc.
Can't wait for all the people who only like legend of Mana via pictures and youtube videos finally get to play it and realize it's kinda bad
This, buy the SaGa Frontier Remaster instead
>Mickey Mouse becoming domain three years from now
Do you seriously think Washington will allow that to happen?
They will rewrite copyright law so the Mouse stays "protected".
They have done it before, they will do it again.
SOUL

Yes, I agree. I think the music and pixel art in lom is good but the gameplay and quest system blows

NEVER EVER, steam tranny.
>mixels
I kind of understand what you mean
it's like when I see FF7 with higher res models and ai upscaled backgrounds
these games still look better on a CRT
wrong, but everyone hates everything nowadays so I don't blame you
you probably thought it was supposed to be like zelda, when it's more like chrono trigger
lol
I agree with him. I love what they did with the Trials remake, but I'm glad they kept Legend closer to the original.
looks good to me. did they announce the price yet?
>are all the mana games connected?
not really. they take place in the same world, but hundreds of years apart so the only real connection is the Mana Tree and some cities have the same names (but still look completely different in each game).
there's nothing wrong with playing LoM first.
SD1 is my favourite and I think SD2/SoM is a really bad game and think Crosscode shits on all 3 SD games combined.
How does this compare?
Also good luck. I hope for you this is not one of the shit PC square ports.
does Crosscode have good combat?
>not really.
???
PLAY THE GAMES YOU FUCK
Dude just run this 21-year old horseshit on a PS1 emulator.
>How does this compare?
the combat is pretty bad, and you pretty much have to use a guide if you want 100% completion.
most people who are fans of it like it for the SOUL.
Of course the combat is nice to control and has good depth. AI is also good and not cockblocking you.
which mana games do you have to play in order and why?
>most people who are fans of it like it for the SOUL.
So nostalgia. I swear every random ps1 shovelware jrpg got a flood of people praising it as the best game ever.
Aside from what said the game was prone to crashes both on the PC version and the PS4 version. I pirated the shit and it crashed so much and created 500mb dump files that were created every time the game crashed, which was often.
LoM is actually kinda soulful while KH is literally an autism simulator for trannies and honest to god autists, SE knows it, Valve knows it, god knows it.
Been playing LoM off and on for years since its PS1 release. I like it. I hope that is what the whole game. I don't want anything to be fucked up. I just want to dive back in and enjoy all over again.
>THANK YOU NINTENDO
unironical drones
While I liked the graphics of the game I never actually like the game that much
I much prefer the first 3 and sword
>30 fucking bucks
get a job or pirate and stop bitching like a little bitch
The release order is the chronological order. You can play whichever but you will get certain stuff if you played others before. Like if you played SD1 then you know more about the mana tree and the sword you pick up in SoM in the fist area.
My opinion of it has always been high. I did have poorly explained systems in there, or not at all explained, like the in depth concepts of its item crafting and element infusions, but you didn't actually need those to beat the game so figuring it out was really only for Newgame+ with every monster set to level 99.
He's really just singing about a girl that turns people to stone. It's perfectly innocent.
*unwittingly
I always liked this one more, more choice of how I played put into my hands.
Huh. I missed that discussion. The backgrounds are kind of soft though. Kinda look like upscale
They should let us have the option to have original backgrounds.
They did for the soundtrack so why not this?
I fucking love this game. THE definition of soul and a great adventure.
...
what would be the purpose of putting 4:3 low res into the game?
just play the original if you want that
>not cockblocking you
how does Sword's combat do that?
SD2/3 are JRPGS, SD1 is Action Adventure
>The only parts that benefit are the areas you're using a CRT shader for in the first place
Whoa
My fav feature on this game
I can spend a hours just to experimenting with Golem logic blocks combination
Holy shit there's actually chinese people here.
Just opened Steam, and...
SaGa Frontier is not on Steam?
Git gud
they're getting better, maybe in 5 years or so we get old square games on pc in a way were they are better than the SNES version
That looks good. So good you could mistake them for being secret high res versions of the original assets.
YESSSS MORE CONSOLE SCRAPS

WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO BEG FOR 5 YEARS FOR THIS ONE
>Didn't Legend have some really shitty and obtuse puzzles/progression?
Guess who worked on it
It's up on the eShop, but not on Steam and PSN.
Do Square remasters ship with English and Japanese text on all regions? I ordered the E-Store exclusive set that was posted earlier in the thread and I'm wondering if my copy of the game will be a paperweight.
Grandia HD looks like shit, though, as in an actual emulator blur filter. This actually looks drawn if you consider the additional shading and details on the sign.
already replayed the ps1 version like 3 times, why should I bother with this one?
>remaster
lazy bastards
you need to be 25+ to play this game?
some chinaman?
what was wrong with secret of mana?
Isn't that the main character from Egglia?
Transfering a CD game into a cartridge. Also Ted Woolsey nuking 40% of the original script while he was translating the game due to Square's one month deadline.
That's the creator of the SaGa series, a series where it doesn't tell you how its mechanics and gameplay works. You have to figure it out by yourself. He was the producer of Legend of Mana.
>How does this compare?
It’s the best game in the series, by far.
>the combat is pretty bad
It’s the best in the series tho’
>Didn't Legend have some really shitty and obtuse puzzles/progression?
Only if you are a brainlet/zoomer. It’s progression is comparable with Dark Soul’s. Don’t let filtered idiots confuse you.
Legend of Mana's English script also lacks a bunch of stuff compared to JP version.
The whole backstory of Immortal Emperor (Deathbringer in EN) was cut in half because they couldn't fit the entirety of it in encyclopedia (once again, the kanji dilemma and devs not being able to add screen scrolling for EN version).
Game looks like garbage, why even bring this back.
But is there even a sexy furry babe in it?
I don't think it will sell as well as Trials...
I don't think I'll find puzzles shittier than one config puzzle in Deponia 2. I'm ready
Yes, Sierra exist and she got the most fanart out of all LoM characters.
What the fuck is this trying to do? I feel like I'm having a stroke.
>$30

Updated my wishlist
>Mouse becoming public domain
top kek lmao rofl
is this the most beautiful looking pixel game ever made?
Wow they gonna put some retard price on it?
>But is there even a sexy furry babe in it?
There are multiple even.
Looks good to me, compare that to Squares efforts on the Final Fantasy V port on Steam and I'd say they're definitely being less lazy now.
3D Models when?
Jesus that looks atrocious. The only thing i have to really pick with the new look is the sprites being pixelated and i played the PSx version and it wasnt that bad honestly since everything was somewhat similar. But since its coming to pc is there any chance of being able to mod in better sprites?
it doesnt....look bad really but im wondering if leaving the character sprites alone was a good idea instead of just giving it the same treatment
>buying shit on release
If they don't fuck this up I'm grabbing it in a steam sale for 3 bucks a coupls o years down the line.
for me it's a crt overlay with crt-lottes
FUCK now I want this. I'm pretty sure it's not coming to the west. Shit.
the sprites look so bad in hd
lazy fucks
Is the SaGa Frontier remake also coming for PC?
This level always fucked me up as a kid. It was also my first difficulty spike
Kingdom hearts has a fan base of dedicated autists so they will cave and buy it on epic anyway. Legend of mana doesn't.
The retouched backgrounds look great, shame the sprites can't look more integrated into them. It's better to leave them that way than fuck 'em up like the iOS FF ports.
Rise of Mana actually had 3D models for SoM protags (which were reused for SoM remake), SD3's Koren/Goremand/Bigeu (which weren't reused because devs went with DQXI build of UE4) and Larc/Sierra/Daena/Elazul/Pearl:

>steam page says shared screen co-op and remote play co-op
>in game menu has 2p controller settings
No, Secret has genuinely aged like milk. Music and spritework are still great but the gameplay is a fucking mess. Hit detection is spotty as fuck and smacking an enemy seems to give them i-frames or something so anything that hits multiple times is entirely useless. That includes a lot of the charge attacks so more often than not, it's a waste of time to charge anything beyond level 1 or 2. That's pretty shit when each weapon has like 9 charge levels. Worse yet is some enemies seem to only respond to charge attacks and all regular attacks seem to wiff. But hey, none of that matters because the magic is busted as fuck and trivializes almost the entire game, save for before you get it and the final boss where you have to use the sword. Boss fights sure are fun when your options are either swing at dead air or turn it into a powerpoint presentation with magic and kill it in a few seconds. I remembered it fondly from when I was a kid but it doesn't hold up at all compared to SD3/ToM.
It's obviously not upscaled, even with an AI. The backgrounds were hand drawn, and they either found the original copies and rescanned them at a higher resolution, or already had higher resolution scans and just swapped them in.
It's not uncommon in game development to start with high resolution assets then scale them down.
I'm not sure, i can understand how some people might find how jarring it looks in contrast since that characters don't look as low res as the original art is, but I'm just not personally as bothered by it.
I'm used to this stuff with games like Grandia and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
I thought it was timed exclusivity.
>>Parasite Eve
>Soundtrack was the weakest part of the game

YOU NEVER PLAYED PARASITE EVE YOU FAGGOT THE SOUNDTRACK WAS THE BEST PART
Come on guys, we're going to the beach

Nice, looks like I won't have to pay for it.
Why are every grandia ports shit

I'll level with you user, none of the mana games are good. Trials is the most okay of them but i wouldn't go out of my way to play it again ever
>dark souls
You autistic fucks always force a way to shove your meme game in every single thread
>Why are every grandia ports shit
I don't know, but it makes me mad GungHo fucked up the HD version of the first game and never bothered to fix it.
The part that bothers me most is that they forced texture filtering on the sprites.
Filtered.
I've always wanted to play this game but have never been able to, so I guess it's a win for me regardless?
What's stopping you from playing it right now
it's unreleased in my region and I don't have the means to pirate it.
What do you mean "THANK YOU NINTENDO"? It's a Square Enix game. Nintendo had nothing to do with it other than show it off.
one more for the pile
Kingdom Hearts will still be copyrighted. Also, only Steamboat Willie Mickey will be in public domain, not the later incarnations. And Disney missed the deadline to extend the copyright protection years ago so they can't do it again legally.
sweet now we can stop pretending this game is good
People playing it now finding out it was a shit game all along.
>Legend isn't even mainline.
This though.
SD1 = Adventures of Mana (Sword of Mana is a reimagining of this game too)
SD2 = Secret of Mana
SD3 = Trials of Mana
SD4 = Dawn of Mana.
Legend, Children, Heroes, and the mobile games are considered spin offs.
Which Mana game should I play first?
I reached the end of vagrant story and was feeling really good about plowing my way through the boss gauntlet in the final dungeon without issue, only for me to do single digit damage to the final boss and get two shotted by his attacks.
I had to work my ass off to win.
Get that shitty electropop outta my face, boomer
Some of them are connected. Heroes is set 19 years before Trials. Children 10 years after Dawn. And Friends is 10 years after Legends.
That's it though.
Heroes actually establishes that it's not all the same world. There's a multiverse linked by the mana tree and by mavolia. Anise's attempt to destroy mana on world after world is the main connecting tissue.
You must be crazy because the soundtrack for Parasite Eve is EASILY the best part of it.

God, I love this song. Never even played this game but heard the arrangement on the Drammatica album and it blew me away. It says a lot about the strength of the composition if it can stand alone without nostalgia for the game.
SOUL
The backgrounds looks the same as the original. They're likely the original uncompressed assets(before they compressed them to 240p for PSX).
They don't mesh with the low res sprites however.
>the 'home' sign is a dead giveaway
The home sign looks exactly the same(only the PSX shot looks blurry do to the image being upscaled).
These are clearly the original assets, you people are morons.
Sindoll.
That is all.
It looks fine because these are the original assets slightly modified(like the mountain being being moved behind the home sign for some reason) and it having a wider view due to the 16:9 aspect ratio.
The only thing that looks bad is the low res character sprites layered over it. They should have made the effort to update them.
