Was the demo that bad?

IF IT WAS A GOOD DEMO WE WOULDN'T BE SITTIN' HERE DISCUSSING IT TOGETHER NOW WOULD WE

It plays like an old game and not in a good way. I mean early 2000s kinda stiff and bland.

I honestly can't believe people can genuinely defend it. All defense of the game basically revolves around
>W-WELL IT WAS JUST THE FIRST LEVEL!
>I-IT'LL GET BETTER IN THE FULL GAME!
Which is such naïve delusion.
The biggest issue of the game isn't just that it's too easy, it's just extremely bland. It's basically the absolute bare minimum a 3D Platformer could be, and I can't see any number of single-button-abilities fixing that.
>WELL THE FUN COMES FROM EXPLORING AND FINDING SECRETS!
It's not fun to explore when your character moves as slow as molasses and when the environment has zero interesting content. It might've been a fair point if they tried to pull a psychonauts and had each of the levels be interesting explorations of these random characters' psyches, but the levels are little more than a random bunch of items relating to a single interest of the random person. Not to mention that all of the characters in the game are just random people I know nothing about and don't care about because they decided they shouldn't have a story in the game and they should sell the story separately thus defeating any sort of hook a plot might've otherwise had to keep the player coming back.

What the fuck is that thing in the hub world where you load chickens on to it to unlock levels? that's the stupidest idea I've ever seen

It was so bad that while I didn't even play it it pains me to be reminded of it.

my nigga

It was so bad that their best option at this point is to delay the game for 2-3 years and start from scratch.

it's a platformer where the movement sucks

it's a disaster

Balan Wonderbland, lul

How to budget your 'back to basics' game: put all the money into cutscenes

It's the kind of bad where I don't hate it, I feel sorry for it

>almost one month out from release which is usually when a game goes "gold"
>still no delay announcement from SE
bros...

That's like the most kino thing in the demo you nigger.

It's really sad. An old man looking at Mario Odyssey and thinking, "I've got it in me! I can make something just as good!" falling on his face at 60mph. WHY DID YOU DO THIS, YOU PRIDEFUL FOOL?

Yeah, but the cunny was top tier. Still not buying it tho

It had some nice ideas but for the most part it felt like a shitty indie NiGHTS knockoff. Visually interesting, actually shit.
Also if you're going to give us a new NiGHTS-like game and give us a dream-person flying around LET US FLY AS THE FUCKING BASTARD INSTEAD OF DOING A SHITTY QTE BIT.

no, it's just zoomers encountering a game that was built with old-school design principles, not today's nu-shit. same reason why the medievil remake was trashed.

Explain what makes it enjoyable, then, oh sage elder.

i can't, it's not enjoyable

Is it Devil May Cry 2 bad where it's irredeemable garbage or like Dark Souls 2 where it's bad, but also good in a way?

The former.
Your movement speed is just fucking agonizingly slow, and there's not really anything going on that hasn't been done better in any other platformer. There's just a complete void of worthwhile gameplay.

It's not exactly bad in itself, it's just extremely simple and boring.
There's no feeling of awe or excitement while playing, you just keep going without giving a shit about the game.
It would probably be better if was actually a bad game, at least it would be entertaining to play it as a trainwreck

It honestly feels like they put 99% of development time into crafting the aesthetic of a genre defining platformer, and then a week before the demo launched they remembered they have to make gameplay for it too.

And yet they still came up with a nauseating mess. It makes me want to puke. 100% hubris.

How is there being a cute brown girl option a bad thing you homo?

The bad thing is they felt the need to remake the same cutscene for every character appearance.

Yes, it actually was.

There is literal kiddy diddling propaganda in this game. What the fuck is wrong with Square Enix lately?

Attached: yiikes.jpg (1857x1103, 477.69K)

its such a shame too
it needs some more cooking for about like 3-4 months
fix the movement, jump and transformation times
make it more challenging
and make it more exciting to play
it seems like they just blew their budget on cgi visuals

What was the alternative, brainiac? Make a canon appearance? Because that would've been stupid for a character that is supposed to be an avatar of the player.

I kinda liked it. Mostly Ohshima's designs.
I'll get it for 10 bucks after it bombs and stores start getting rid of the stock.

>>W-WELL IT WAS JUST THE FIRST LEVEL!
If you quit out after the first level because it pops up the store link your are the dumb. Act 1 of levels 4 and 6 are playable too.
IMHO they don't really redeem the game as shown, but they are there.

The cutscenes are nice, at least.

> early 2000s
> stiff and bland
you were not alive in the early 2000s.

they're high quality, you mean. they have no substance whatsoever and do nothing to advance the plot, engross you in the world, etc. it's literally just weird furry nambla shit

Bad doesn't begin to describe it.

>It honestly feels like they put 99% of development time into crafting the aesthetic of a genre defining platformer

It looks like shit. It seems more like 99% of the effort went to the opening cutscene. Especially since the rest of the non-dance cutscenes are slide shows.

This, the opening cutscene looks pretty but makes no sense and explain nothing.
You're just invited to a magical place where a weird guy throw you into a weird world and then... that's it

I actually prefer cutscenes like that, where there's no dialogue and shit is a little cryptic.

It's just the opening of nights all over again. Two kids are freaking out about a thing they have to do, but instead of having nightmares where they are saved by a jester, they go outside and stumble upon a circus tent where they are thrown by a jester into a bizarre world. If you think there even IS more to be explained than that, this is not the story for you.

>If you think there even IS more to be explained than that, this is not the story for you.

But they said they're releasing a novelisation to explain the story.

I have zero problem with that if it keeps them from shoving it into the game.

>releasing a novelisation to explain the story
why not just put it in the game?
who thought this was a good idea for a new IP of all things

Pure kino

It's not cryptic, it's just nothing. Don't give this game more credit than it deserves, it's a cluster.

One of the most important things in a platformer is making sure movement is fluid and fun. Balan Wonderworld completely fucked up that basic premise.

Disagree, I think this is one thing the game actually does well.

>Because that would've been stupid for a character that is supposed to be an avatar of the player.
Tell me, how many redheaded nigger children have you ever seen?

Nights work better because it doesn't try to have a story and you actually have an objective
>start game
>get attacked
>lose your marbles
>Nights guy get them back for you
Balan is just
>here's a hub
>here's a farmer you never met that got transformed
>congrats, he's saved, now do it again

I smell newfag.

Yes.

t. skipped the opening in nights

Does the game at least have good porn?

Shut it, nerd-faggot. The...ADULTS...are speaking.

And by opening I mean the character openings, not the opening before the title screen.
