If it was because of inaction.
I know people who had dirtbag parents that just guilt tripped them into doing everything for them. Or druggies who left them to take care of 5 other kids when they were 13. How do you recover from being a fully functional adult by the age of 13? That does damage you can't see and causes you to behave in ways similar to the druggy parents you hate. I watched it happen to all my cousins, even the one with scholarships and grants out the ass.
