Donald Trump's impeachment will head to a trial in the US Senate this week, although it's unlikely there will be enough votes to convict the former president.
The US House of Representatives has already impeached Mr Trump, but he is yet to be convicted — a step that would bar him from holding office again.
For Mr Trump to be convicted, two-thirds of the US Senate would have to vote in favour of it, which is a high bar to clear.
But even if impeachment fails, there is another way the US Congress could prevent Mr Trump from ever running for office again. It is a little-known amendment to the US constitution, which has only recently begun to be discussed by US legal scholars.

The irony is both those Presidents did achieve some good things policy wise for America and particularly Republicans, but none of them would have supported Reagan or Nixon launching a coup. In fact, Republicans were going to convict Nixon which prompted his resignation. But that was back when Republicans still had a sense of integrity and loyalty to the Constitution.

He was never winning.
He couldn't win the popular vote against the most hated woman in America, and instead of doing to do anything to expand his base during his four years in office, he did everything in his power to piss the rest of the electorate off. There was no way for him to legitimately win at that point.
Thus, he and those who put power of their party before the good of the nation, were doing nearly everything in their power to disenfranchise the American public.

If that's why the people's will was made manifest in the election, despite all the efforts from the top down and bottom up to prevent it, more power to those who helped the people's voice be heard.
At the same time, when the winning majority goes out of its way to villainize the minority, instead of address their issues in a fashion more suited to their own tastes, that's tyranny by majority, and our country doesn't need that either. Although I'm not thrilled at the prospect of him running again, the precedent that a conviction would set - that the ruling party gets to decide who is and isn't allowed to run for office, would be disastrous. But no, we're not going to become a communist dictatorship under professional politicians. It's a good chunk of their job to make sure that never happens. The economy does not want that, quite the opposite. Though the resulting desperation that comes with holding the economy as the highest value, is the very thing that threatens that system of moderation.
The risk comes in, when the people start being so afraid that they start demanding people who aren't politicians, in the position of politicians, and our leaders are actually greedy enough for power and blind enough to the bigger picture, to give the people what they want.
That's where your Hitler's and Lenin's and Mao's come from - sure, there's usually force involved, sometimes a civil war, but in order for that to have any real chance of succeeding, the people have to be desperate enough to want to burn their nation to the ground.
