Vault of Bones kind of showed they didn't really click as adventuring buddies, though. In keeping with my aforementioned fixing-everything, I see his relationship with FP as being more of a learning relationship, and when they do eventually break up, it's amicable and in-character. The whole time, though, the show would be gradually building and strengthening the interactions between him and Marceline in preparation for what's to come.
