If it wasn't for the 3D spectacle it would have been remembered as another "wimpy kid has a crush on bland warrior girl, befriends magic creature gets dads respect and the girl knows of his existence".
Although I like that the first movie didn't have them hook up, which made sense as Astrid wasn't his love interest from the book, it was a pirate dragon trainer.
