well the concept is basically; the earth get destroyed to make way for an interstellar highway (which is juxtaposed by the fact that the main character's house was just about to be demolished for the same reasons) and a really reserved british dude is the only human to make it out alive. much shenanigans occur as he tries to make his way in the universe, the earth was actually a computer all along, there's a robot that was programmed with human emotions but just got really depressed about being a robot.... it kinda goes all over the place plotwise, but comedy is so well written you stay engaged the whole time. definitely a recommended read
